The day is started and ended with a shower or bath because it is an invigorating way to get ready to face the day and a most relaxing way to end it. It can be even better with home spas. There are a number of fixtures and fittings that can be added to a bathroom to upgrade so that it feels like one in a spa.

The main item needed for this is a hot tub. To create a home spa, it will take an upgrade from the standard tub to a hot tub. There are different types of them each with its own features. There are four types to choose from. One is the inflatable or plastic spa. It is the least costly option and is portable so it can be in the bathroom or out on the deck if there is space for a spa. It can be put away when not in use. It is often made of plastic, vinyl or nylon. Its shortcomings are that it is not very durable and water temperatures drop quite fast. It is also not as attractive as the other options.

There are also the standard above-ground acrylic spas. They are placed on the surface rather than being sunk into the ground where space has been excavated for them. They can be compared to standard tubs but with additions like an electrical outlet that makes the water whirl and turn. They are a more lasting option and are quite affordable.

The other option is wooden tubs. They are made using sturdy wood such as redwood, cedar or teak. These woods are also fragrant and their scent rises up every time the tub is filled with hot water. These are also placed on a firm surface and they may draw power from a gas, wood or electric heat source. They require frequent maintenance to preserve the wood and can last long with good care.

The best option is an in-ground spa. The ground has to be excavated and then there are sunk into the ground and electrical wiring and plumbing have to be done. They are made of either standard concrete or pneumatically applied concrete that is called gunite. Decorative tile overlaying can be done around it.

Most of these tubs come with a seating arrangement like benches or step- type seats. These are the most costly option but they are well worth it for their ability to heat up faster, retain the heat and the aesthetic value they add. They also raise the financial value of a home.

The grand and latest option is the hot tub entertainment systems. It incorporates the hot tub, TV, DVD, fiber optic lighting made specifically for it and LED lighting. It gives complete body experience and hydrotherapy if form of side jets that shoot water onto the body at specific angles to simulate the effect of a massage given by hand.

Whichever kind of hot tub you choose, you can enhance the experience with lighting that can be dimmed. Soaking in a tub surrounded by glowing candles is very relaxing. Thick, plush towels and bathing robes are another nice addition and so are some fragrant bath salts and gels. Getting home to relax in the spa bathroom will become the favorite part of the day.

3D printing has the potential to truly change the world and the way we view things. Lately, it has been booming! Particularly in early 2012, 3D printers have been targeted at consumers and hobbyists so that almost anyone who wants to use 3D printing can. Even if someone can’t afford to purchase or rent a printer, 3D printing services such as Kraftwurx, Shapeways, or Sculpteo will create your models and turn them into real physical models. 3D printing isn’t unavailable anymore. It isn’t a technology that’s exclusive to work laboratories and universities anymore; it’s commercial. It’s available to whoever wants to seek it!

So what happens when consumers and hobbyists gain access to this technology? We’re starting a trend that could put China out of business! Well, maybe not but we won’t be importing nearly as much. When creation is available to almost anyone who wants it, we lose dependence to other countries that we currently outsource to. In addition to that, this industry would open up more jobs for manufacturing in the United States. Aside from that aspect, 3D printing is friggin’ cool! This form of manufacturing has the power to manufacture virtually any shape. Products that revolve around machining or mold manufacturing can’t compete with the levels of variety that 3D printing offers. New stuff can be created with ease through this form of manufacturing. Products that involve organic shapes, pieces can be placed “within” products (a ball within a ball), and curves can be made with ease. The possibilities of products to be manufactured are endless.

Currently on the hobbyist level, small doodads are being created. These doodads are very witty, useful, and can serve as a prototype for larger scale creations. Examples include a variety of ipod cases, key-chains, bottle openers, character models, jewelry, puzzles, games, etc. If a community of “makers” can create a bunch of crafty and witty doodads, what could happen when big corporations get involved?

Engineering companies are using 3D printing to prototype large scale projects across the globe. These projects include advanced valve systems, automobile applications, testing for tools, and many other applications. Some companies are using 3D printing for marketing purposes. When a model is created, it can be handed to a client to visually see what will come from a project. This is great on large-scale projects. Some of these projects could involve product development or architectural applications. In fact, 3D printing is involved (or can be involved) with most industries out there today. If anything involves marketing an idea, or creating a product, this manufacturing technology can play a role in it!

Crazy applications are also taking place that I am so excited to see develop. Some of these projects include renewable solar panels, organ replication, precise implants, and other interesting apparatuses. This technology simply doesn’t have a ceiling! Within the next few years, who knows where this advanced form of manufacturing is going to go. The potential is limitless, and it could go anywhere! Only time will tell.
